I'm a licensed speech-language pathologist (S-LP) registered with the College of audiologists and speech-language pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and certified by Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC), meaning I completed a comprehensive exam and continuously participate in educational activities. Speaking of education, I have a combined total of 10-years in post-secondary studies and I hold two Master's degrees. I speak English, Mandarin, and French but have also studied Spanish and Italian; plus I grew up in an international community with all sorts of accents! I am neurodivergent and strive to be a neurodiversity affirming practitioner.
All my degrees are from the University of Toronto:
Honours Bachelor of Arts with majors in linguistics and cognitive science, and a minor in semiotics & communication studies
Master of Health Science in speech-language pathology (Faculty of Medicine)
Master of Science (thesis-based) in speech-language pathology (Rehabilitation Sciences Institute)
My strong linguistics background, particularly in the fields of phonetics (the study of speech sounds) and phonology (the study of sound patterns), provides education and rationale for the activities we do in speech therapy sessions. My research background is crucial for choosing what tools are the most evidence-based and allows me to find answers to questions that may come up.
I help adults (typically students or working professionals) meet their communication goals by improving different aspects of their speech. I tailor in-session activities to the needs of my clients and we work together to figure out what works best!
Outside of work I enjoy eating good food, playing with my dog, and pursuing one of my many hobbies (painting, pottery, soccer, and more). I'd love to hear more about your interests as well to make sessions more engaging for you!
I'm no stranger to public speaking and received an award for my 3-minute thesis-style presentation. I've also given a talk to an audience of over 400 people. Whether it's online or in-person, let's prepare for your next presentation together!
